How Daily Goal, streaks, and My Progress keep play on track

A parent guide to Tomorrow Kid’s habit layer—Today’s goal (3 activities), Home streaks, the parent math gate, and My Progress with stars, week marks, and iCloud notes.

What Daily Goal and My Progress are for

Tomorrow Kid’s habit layer is simple on purpose. Home shows a Today’s goal card—a progress ring and three stars—so kids know that finishing the day means opening 3 different activities. A streak chip appears when play continues day after day. Parents open the richer dashboard through the gear: pass a short math gate, open Settings, then Kid Progress (the screen title is My Progress).

How the habit loop works

  1. Opening a Home vertical records play for today via HomeStreakService (stored on-device in UserDefaults—no network required)
  2. The goal counts different activities, capped at 3 (HomeStreakService.dailyGoal)
  3. The Home streak stays alive if yesterday still counts through today; miss a day and it resets
  4. Parent gear → math challenge (ParentalMathChallengeSheet) → Settings → Kid Progress
  5. My Progress shows current streak, best streak, week marks, total stars, items finished, play time, a Stars & Stickers card, and one card per learning vertical
  6. A footer note explains device-only save vs iCloud sync when cloud sync is active

This is the accountability layer parents ask about—without replacing the Sticker Book reward story or the per-vertical tutorials.

A calm way to introduce it at home

  1. Point at Today’s goal on Home and pick any three different tiles across the week (Stories one day, Tracing another—variety is the point).
  2. Celebrate the streak chip when it appears; treat a reset as a fresh start, not a lecture.
  3. When you want the bigger picture, open the parent gear, solve the math gate, and tap Kid Progress.
  4. Glance at stars, finished items, and a vertical card—then leave. The dashboard is for you; Home stays for them.

What to try next

Use Daily Goal as the gentle “enough for today” signal, and My Progress when you want a weekly check-in. Stars and stickers still live in the Sticker Book loop; this habit layer just makes the rhythm visible. When you are ready, open Tomorrow Kid and aim for three different activities before the day ends.
